Frequently Asked Questions
-
Worried you might be pregnant? Taking a pregnancy test can be an important first step toward getting clarity. Pregnancy tests work by detecting a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is produced by the body during pregnancy.
Before making decisions about your pregnancy or considering your options, it’s important to first confirm whether or not you are pregnant.
-
Your body needs time to produce enough hCG for a pregnancy test to detect it. Taking a test too early may result in an inaccurate reading.
For the most accurate results, the Mayo Clinic recommends taking a pregnancy test after your first missed period—at least one day afterward.
If you’re unsure when you should take a test or have questions about your situation, contact us. We’re here to provide information and help you take your next step.
A positive pregnancy test can provide an important first answer, but it’s not the only information you need when making a pregnancy decision. There are additional things to consider and steps you can take to better understand your pregnancy.
-
If you’ve missed your period or had unprotected sex, you may be wondering if you could be pregnant. The Life Center offers no-cost, confidential pregnancy testing in a supportive environment.

Preparing for a baby can bring financial concerns, and you don’t have to navigate them alone. At The Life Center, we want to support moms not only during pregnancy, but throughout the first years of their baby’s life.
Depending on your needs and available resources, we may be able to provide practical items such as baby clothes, diapers, formula, and other essential supplies.
If there are needs we cannot meet directly, we can help connect you with local organizations and resources that may be able to provide additional assistance.
We can also help you think through the financial side of preparing for your baby and work with you to develop a plan. Our experienced mothers can offer practical insight into which baby items are truly helpful and necessary—and which ones you may be able to skip.
Our goal is to help reduce financial stress so you can focus on caring for and raising a happy, healthy family.
